These batteries must not only provide the high electrical energy required to start the large-volume diesel engine, but also offer significant cycle capability and capacity (Ah) for the numerous consumers during standstill (cool box, auxiliary heating, multimedia). The cold start performance (CCA) must be extremely high in order to reliably cover the massive power requirement of the starter motor even at low temperatures.

Vibration, continuous operation and robustness
The truck batteries are exposed to extreme loads due to their installation position and continuous driving over long distances. They must be able to withstand strong vibrations and shocks without the internal plate structures becoming loose or damaged. This requires special, reinforced housings and internal constructions (e.g. using fleece separators such as those used in AGM or EFB technologies). In addition, truck batteries must be able to withstand continuous discharge during rest periods (hotel function) without deep discharge damage and quickly regain full charging capacity via the powerful generator.

Safety, disconnection and battery management
In the truck sector, the safety of the battery system through components such as the main battery switch (emergency stop or disconnector) is required by law and is essential. This enables the safe and quick disconnection of the on-board power supply in the event of maintenance or danger. In addition, modern truck fleets are often equipped with complex battery management systems (BMS). Replacement batteries must therefore not only have the correct voltage and capacity, but also the electrical characteristics (e.g. end-of-charge voltage) in order to be correctly integrated into this system and ensure optimum charging and avoid costly failures due to undersupply of critical electronic control units.
