Load-bearing force in the vehicle wheel
The rim is the structural frame on which the tire sits and is attached. It connects the wheel hub and tire, transmits forces and ensures safe contact with the road. The rims of trucks and commercial vehicles in particular are robustly dimensioned and often made of steel or aluminum to withstand high loads.
Form and function
For a rim to function reliably, the bolt circle, offset, hub bore, number of wheel studs and material must harmonize. Other elements such as valve openings, flange edges, mounting surfaces and accessories such as hub caps or protective rings are part of the functional equipment of the rim.
